In recent weeks Aspect held our first Healthy Living Day (an excuse to indulge in healthy treats) and were also tasked by one of our clients with putting together our top Stress Relief Tips for conference speakers. As a society we are more health conscious than ever and as this spills over and impacts our working lives we thought we’d share with you our 7 steps to de-stress on-site.
1.0 Breathe deeply
Taking a few deep breaths can help reduce tension and relieve stress, thanks to an extra boost of oxygen.
2.0 Eat a snack
Be sure to provide your delegates with healthy snacks that will fill them up, the gut is a major mediator of the stress response and nothing is more stressful than feeling like you’ve run out of nourishment.
3.0 Treat yourself and your delegates
Eating or drinking something sweet also benefits you by creating a soothing effect. Why not have a grab and go sweet station?
4.0 Step away from the screen
Take frequent breaks throughout the day where you shut off from your laptop and phone. Utilise these breaks by providing charging stations for mobiles that aren’t in use.
5.0 Try Naam Yoga
Applying pressure to the space between your second and third knuckle can help create a sense of instant calm; it activates a nerve that loosens the area around the heart.
6.0 Put on some music
Any music you enjoy will flood your brain with feel-good neurochemicals. If you want to minimise noise pollution, try creating ‘quiet zones’ where you provide noise cancelling headphones.
7.0 Muscle relaxation
Start with your toes and work your way up to your face: tighten your muscles as much as you can, then relax them.
There are endless ways you can de-stress during an event, from sleeping or reading, to talking and exercising. The important thing to remember is to stop and make time for whichever method works for you, and remember; ‘the time to relax, is when you don’t have time for it’.
